It’s Saturday afternoon, the day after my very first Crossfit Fundamentals session- I am actually feeling really good today a little sore in the shoulders but nothing out of the ordinary after a good workout. Yesterday was not so though, so let me take you back there….

So I have been in a bit of a fitness rut lately- not feeling overly motivated to train; I’ve been overly focused on the renovations and whatnot at the studio.

After the success of ‘Bring a Friend Free’ month in February we have decided to bring it back this Spring for the entire month of May!

So, we hereby declare that May is 'Bring A Friend FREE' month at Core Essentials for our Zumba and RealRyder classes.

This month’s ‘Bring a friend Free’ works the same as last time: You can bring the same friend once this month, but if you happen to be here 3-4 times per week, you can bring a different friend each time you come - how fun!

Kettlebells are the hottest new training tool that aren't really so new.

A kettlebell is a functional training tool; that looks like a canon ball with a handle.

The first written mention of a kettlebell was found in a Russian dictionary in 1704. Girya's were first used as counter balances on scales in Russian markets. Farmers began to swing and juggle them and the first formalized training with kettlebells was with the Russian Military and athletes.

So what is so special about these cast iron weights?

Hey everyone! I can attest to the affects of this vitiman D. As if the man needed more energy, ladies and gentlemen..it has happend. But what a great place CORE is. A Halifax based crew of us makes the journey over the bridge at lunchtime MWF for continued torture, I mean classes with Mr. Guthrie and it has been "working out" fantastic.

Wow, what a great Saturday morning kettlebell drop-in! I decided to take Craig's drop in class as I was in between clients.

We had an awesome turnout for the first session! Guys and girls were sweating and working super hard- it was an 800 calorie class this morning (with all the quads we did, it might have inched us closer to 1,000!)

Quite a few new faces in the class, new to kettlebell that is, but of course some of our die-hard clients were there too.

WaterRowing- Row!!!!

What a success the inaugural Meltdown event was last night, March 26, 2010 at Core.

We had a fantastic turnout, we sold out! The feedback has been phenomenal and it great way to welcome Craig Guthrie to Core Essentials.

It was also great to see that over half of the people involved had never touched a kettlebell or ridden the RealRyders.

Well there are only five more days to the  first ever Meltdown at Core Essentials on Friday March 26. The response has been phenomenal. We are super psyched for the evening.

We have DJ Scott Rideout from True North DJ Services, he'll be spinning and mixing tunes all night long!

We've got some great prizes up for grabs. The grand prize being one free registration to our weekend Fitness & Wellness Fall Retreat. This includes accommodation, meals and of course fabulous workouts and nutrition.
